Toilet problems we fix

• Cistern that keeps running: usually a worn flush valve seal or a fill valve that won’t shut off.
• Weak or partial flush: often a cistern not filling properly or a worn flush mechanism.
• Water around the base: the pan connector, the cistern seal or the supply pipe.
• Slow refill: a partly closed isolation valve or a fill valve clogged with scale.
• Loose or rocking toilet: left alone, it can break the seal at the back.
• Blocked toilet: if a plunger hasn’t worked, stop flushing and ring us.

Hard water

Bristol Water describes all the water in its area as moderately hard to very hard. Limescale on washers, valves and cistern seals is one of the most common reasons a tap drips or a toilet keeps running.

Repair or replace?

Most toilet and tap problems are fixed by replacing one part, and we’ll usually suggest that first. Replacement makes more sense when parts aren’t available, the pan or cistern is cracked, the same fitting keeps failing, or you’re updating the room anyway.

Staff and customer toilets get heavy use. A running cistern wastes water all day, and a toilet out of action causes queues. We repair and replace toilets, urinals, basins and taps in business premises, and can fit isolation valves so one fitting can be fixed without shutting off the whole washroom.

Fitting a new toilet

We replace toilets like for like, or fit a different style. That covers removing the old one, connecting the new pan to the soil pipe, fitting the cistern, adding an isolation valve if there isn’t one, and testing the flush.
